Sandstone Pillars and Finials

The sandstone pillars and sandstone finials at the project to rebuild the Shawfiled mansion (pictured above) were taken from original Georgian pattern books. No details of what were around the original house survive, our designs however are certainly contemporary to the original Georgian house.

Sized to work with our sandstone walling stone, the pillars come in three finishes: rock faced sandstone; bush hammered or pick faced sandstone; and honed sandstone. Our sandstone pillars use alternate courses of rock faced and honed sandstone, which is particularly effective. Sandstone pillar caps feature a raised hand finished pick faced panel with traditional Georgian mouldings above and below.

We have traditional sandstone ball finials cut from single pieces of stone to finish the pillars, giving them an understated elegance, Sovalli are the sole UK distributor for a major international sandstone company with multiple quarries offering a range of sandstone colours.
