Traditional Decorative Plaster Ceiling Roses
Known in Victorian times as 'centre flowers', ceiling roses were standard in all Victorian properties from the humblest terrace to the grandest detached villa, and increased in size and complexity accordingly.
Originally moulded in sections, the introduction of gelatine moulds in the 1850's reduced their cost, and allowed them to be produced in one piece off site.
Ceiling roses can be broken down into four constituent elements, an outer 'border' often a rope design, and then an inner 'body' often a floral motif, and then the 'centre', in the middle of which is the fourth element, the seed or drop.
The drop is now largely missing from modern ceiling roses to allow for an electric cable but is still retained in some of our designs, which are intended to be purely decorative.
